Community Crime Fighters rewarded

VOLUNTEERS who serve as Community Crime Fighters have seen their continuing efforts rewarded.

The Safer Doncaster Partnership presented eleven hard-working residents with awards at Mansion House to mark their contributions.

Among them were Mexborough’s Tracey Leyland and Eileen Cooper, along with Maureen Tennison and Margaret Adamson from Edlington.

Community Crime Fighters is a national scheme where residents work with the police and council to help cut anti-social behaviour in their neighbourhood.

After picking up their awards, the volunteers were invited to take part in the partnership’s executive board meeting and give their views on crime-related issues.

Chf Supt Bob Sanderson said: “We’re extremely grateful to the Community Crime Fighters, who give up their free time to help make a difference in their own neighbourhoods.

“This award is about recognising their hard work and making the public aware of the good job they do.”

Cllr Cynthia Ransome, Cabinet member for Neighbourhoods, said: “Congratulations to the Community Crime Fighters, who are doing a really good job in their area and deserve this recognition.

“They know their own neighbourhoods better than most and are in an ideal position to identify local issues and inform other residents of the work the police and council is doing to tackle them.

“I hope the award will encourage others to volunteer to become crime fighters in their own communities.”
