Commotion surrounds Wath murder scene – neighbours speak

NEIGHBOURS living near a suspected murder scene have described “all sorts of commotion” as police descended on the house last night.

Vehicles surrounded the bungalow on Sandygate, Wath-upon-Dearne where officers are investigating at least one death, a police spokeswoman confirmed.

Several remain on the scene this afternoon, including two crime scene investigation vans and two patrol cars.

One neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “My wife and I went out at 7 o’clock last night and it was quiet.

“When we came back 20 minutes later we couldn’t get in for police vans. They’ve been here all night.

He added: “Detectives came around last night asking if we knew the family. When we asked what had happened they said they couldn’t tell us anything.”

Officers have surrounded the home with police tape and closed the curtains as crime scene investigators work inside.

Another neighbour said: “I don’t know the family well, but they always said hello and are very polite.

“They seem like a close-knit family, but were quite private. We would always say hello if they were in the garden.”

She added: “It’s just unbelievable — you just never think that something like this will happen. We’ve never had any trouble with burglaries. It’s a nice area — or so we liked to think.”

Police have not yet released any further information on the crime or victims.
