Chip pan blaze leaves Rotherham couple in hospital

FIREFIGHTERS are advising householders not to try to put out chip pan fires by themselves after a 79-year-old man suffered burns at the weekend.

The pensioner was injured as he attempted to put out a chip pan fire at his home on Aymer Drive, Thurcroft, at around 6.50pm on Friday.

He and his wife managed to get out of their home and fire crews put the fire out, but the couple had to be taken to Rotherham Hospital where the man was treated for burns on his hands and face and his wife was treated for smoke inhalation.
