Child sex abuse trial: victim was "made pregnant by rape"

The third alleged victim to give evidence in the trial of five men and two women at Sheffield Crown Court said she was sexually exploited by Arshid Hussain, who denies 29 charges, from the age of 11 and was raped by him and co-defendant Bostan when she was 20, which resulted a pregnancy.

The woman said she met Hussain, who allegedly when she hung around Masbrough and after a few weeks she was sexually assaulted and raped by him on a daily basis — if she refused he would drag her round by her hair, punch, kick and put cigarettes out on her.

The witness (36), who cannot be named for legal reasons, said Hussain was known as Mad Ash and had soon he got his brothers and friends involved.

She claimed she was “passed around” for sex on a daily basis at a churchyard in Masbrough, garages under the Norfolk House council building and at Clifton Park.

She was placed in several children’s home but would run away to get away from the men, she said.

When she did tell staff at the home she said they told her she was just using it as an excuse for her running away, the jury was told.

The girl was moved around three different care homes, but said the men always sought her out and the cycle of abuse carried on.

“The staff cracked on, but they just used to park down the road where staff couldn't see them,” she said.

At one point she said Mad Ash climbed up a drainpipe into her bedroom and forced her to leave with him.

She said she kept at a bedsit for over a week.

The woman said she met Hussain’s co-defendants Karen MacGregor and Shelley Davies through her abusers and had moved into MacGregor’s home.

There, she said she wss kept imprisoned for six weeks.

“They befriended me, I was thinking they were there to help and support me, but I ended up being locked in a house,” she said.

The woman said she had believed Blind Ash (allegedly co-defendant Qurban Ali) was MacGregor's boyfriend and he would visit the house with more Asian men.

She was pressurised into having sex with them and believed the women were profiting from it, the court heard.

“I said I didn't want to have sex with them but they (MacGregor and Davies) said we need something to eat, we are making you safe,” she said.

“Karen was in her 40s and Shelley was in her mid 20s at this point.

“They used to go from having no money one minute to then being able to order takeaways and things.”

The witness said she had escaped the house by climbing out of a kitchen window.

The woman said she had been sexually assaulted and raped by Mad Ash and Sajid Bostan on several occasions and once, when she was told she would be dropped off back at the children’s home home, she was driven to Clifton Park and sexually assaulted by Bostan’s brother — Majid Bostan — Arshid Hussain and two other men.

She said that even up until 2014 when she saw the men in Rotherham they would try and entice her.

All the defendants deny the charges against them.
