CCTV images of bike thief suspect released

CCTV images of a suspected thief could hold the key to ending a string of bicycle thefts in the Dearne Valley.

Officers are appealing to members of the public to help them identify the man seen at a bike parking area as part of an investigation which comes in response to a spate of thefts in the Dearne area.

A white GT Velocity mountain bike, worth around £400, was stolen from Manvers-based TSC.

A police spokeswoman said that the bike had been “locked and secured” when theft occurred at around noon on July 25, adding: “It is believed that an offender cut the lock to the bike before riding off.”

Issuing a warning to cyclists in the Dearne area, the spokeswoman added: “Police would like the public to be aware that there are bike thieves operating in the Dearne area, and encourage people to report any suspicious behaviour.”

Anyone who recognises the man in the CCTV image or has information relating to other bicycle thefts in the Dearne area should contact police by dialling 101, quoting incident number C/68566/2013 of July 25.
