Cause of fire at recycling plant "not known"

A FIRE broke out at a recycling plant in the early hours of the morning but investigators said the cause was unknown.

The incident occured at Universal Recycling on Wharf Road, Kilnhurst, and South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue (SYFR) were called to the scene just after 2am this morning (Friday).

A SYFR spokeswoman said a large amount of recycling was on fire and investigations into the cause have been inconclusive.

A crew from Rotherham station and Dearne station tackled the blaze and left the scene at 5am.

A member of staff at Universal Recycling said it was a “minor incident”.
