Both vehicles were seized and return on payment of £1,466 in restoration fees and charges.

Acting Det Sgt Andrew Shaw said: “This is a fantastic example of partnership working between South Yorkshire Police and our partners from HMRC.

“We welcome and appreciate their assistance in relation to enforcement of this instance of fuel duty avoidance.”

He added: “This incident should serve as a warning to people who flout the law and use red diesel.”

Three men were arrested and have been bailed pending further enquiries.
