A MAN who died in a bungalow fire on Saturday (Oct 17) night has been named locally as Ian Jennings.

A MAN who died in a bungalow fire on Saturday night has been named locally as Ian Jennings.

Mr Jennings (64) and his wife Olive (67) were inside the property at the time but Mrs Jennings managed to escape.

Three fire engines were called to the property on Pinfold Close, Tickhill, at 9.30pm.

The cause of the blaze is being investigated but is believed by South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue to be accidental.

The Advertiser’s district correspondent, Don Gill, saw the aftermath of the fire.

He said: “I have never witnessed anything like this in Tickhill before.”

Mr Gill said that the property was covered at the front with a large tarpaulin as part of the roof was burned away.

He said that on Sunday three police cars were outside the property with one officer on guard outside and another conducting house to house enquiries.

A body was taken away in a private ambulance.
