The victim woke up to Pearce, of Crownhill Road in Brinsworth, shining a light in her face, the trial heard.

He said to her: “You were awake for that weren’t you?” before she realised that her trousers had been removed and she felt some pain.

Pearce was found guilty of rape and sexual assault and sentenced on Friday (20) to 14 years in jail.

Det Con Katy Walker said: “The victim has shown true bravery and determination during this trial.

“Despite the overwhelming forensic evidence, Pearce refused to admit his crimes.

“We would like to thank the victim for helping us with our investigation, ensuring that Pearce paid for the truly horrific crime he committed.

“At South Yorkshire Police we take every report of rape seriously. We hope this sentence provides the relief the victim needs to attempt to move on with her life.”
