Boy (16) hurt in Wickersley drive-by BB gun shooting incident

A TEENAGE boy was left with a cut face after being shot with a ball bearing gun fired from a passing car in Wickersley.

Witnesses are wanted to the assault in Rotherham, which happened as a 16-year-old boy from Bramley was walking down Warren Road in Wickersley at around 4.45pm on Sunday.

Police said the BB gun was fired from a passing car, which was heading towards Northfield Lane.

Pc Sean Dawson said: “The teenager was shot at twice and one of the pellets has caused a nasty cut about 2cm from his right eye.

“There is a very real chance that if the ball bearing had hit him just half an inch away from where it did, he would have lost the sight in his eye.

“The only description we have of the car was that it was a small black one.

“I would urge anybody who knows anything about this incident to please call South Yorkshire Police, as we need to find those responsible for this mindless and motiveless assault.”

Extensive enquiries have been ongoing since the attack took place and now police are appealing to members of the public for their assistance.
