Bogus gas men restrain pensioner

A PENSIONER was restrained by burglars pretending to be gas maintenance men.

A police spokeswoman said the 69-year-old woman was in the kitchen at her home on Carlisle Street, Rotherham town centre at around 1pm on Wednesday, July 2.

“A man walked in, claiming he was there to check the cooker,” the spokeswoman added.

“He began looking at the appliance while the woman tried to make a phone call.

“The burglar then grabbed the victim and took the phone from her.

“He restrained her until two more men came downstairs, bruising her wrists.

“The trio then left the property with jewellery, electrical items and cash.”

The man who grabbed the pensioner is described as white, around 5ft 6ins tall and of medium build.

He was wearing a long-sleeve white shirt, dark trousers and brown gloves.

One of the other men is described as around 5ft 10ins tall and of slim build. He was also wearing gloves.

Police urged anyone with information on the crime to call them on 101, quoting crime reference number C/63279/14.
