Blaze victim had "multiple injuries, none related to fire"

POLICE have named a 44-year-old man who died after a house fire — and revealed the fire was not the cause of his death

Cy Cooper was pulled alive from the burning house at Bluebell Close, Wincobank, at 12.25am on Wednesday, but later died.

A post-mortem examination found that Mr Cooper died as a result of “multiple injuries, none of which were related to the fire”, police said.

Officer are treating his death as murder — they initially arrested five people in connection with the incident.

Four of those have now been released. A 23-year-old man remains in custody and is being questioned today.

Police and firefighters have launched a joint investigation to discover the cause of the fire, which they believe was set deliberately.
