Arson suspected in Goldthorpe blaze

RESIDENTS were evacuated from their homes by fire crews in the early hours of the morning after smoke was spotted coming from a terraced property.

A row of houses with ten residents in total from Claycliffe Terrace in Goldthorpe were cleared at 4.05am on Saturday (17) morning.

South Yorkshire Police who are treating the fire as suspicious.

A spokeswoman from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said smoke was spotted coming through a roof and the homes were evacuated as a precaution.

She added: “The fire was put out quite quick, but crews spent time clearing smoke and

checking it had not spread to other properties.

“Crews left around 8am and there were no reported injuries.”
