Arnie movie ruse fails to save fugitive

A DESPERATE driver running from a police helicopter took a leaf out of Arniold Schwarzenegger's book and took to the trees to cool off.

Police pursued a blue Vauxhall Corsa through Conisbrough after it failed to stop for officers at around noon on Monday.

The driver left Balby Road and abandoned the car in a field before running into Denaby Woods.

Then, in a bizarre scene mimicking the finale of action movie Predator, the man stripped off and climbed a tree because “he believed it would absorb his body heat and he would not be detected,” a police spokeswoman said.

But he was spotted by thermal imaging cameras onboard chopper SY99 and officers closed in to arrest him for taking a car without consent and other motoring offences.

Police have detained the man pending further enquiries.

Just hours after the incident, police air operators tweeted through account @SYP_AirOps: “You can't make it up - to escape SY99 male undresses & hugs a tree as apparently a tree will absorb your body heat - wrong - one detained.”
