Activities for youngsters bored of the dark nights

POLICE and fire officers are joining forces to take the fear out of this Hallowe’en.

The services have teamed up with youth groups to put on a creepy calendar of after-dark activities for those getting bored on half-term evenings.

The timetable includes Hallowe’en parties, scary movie nights, football and dancing for youngsters aged up to 19, as well family events open to all ages — most of which are free to attend.

Chief Insp Colin McFarlane said: “We know people are concerned about teenagers hanging around on the streets in their area.

“Hallowe'en and bonfire night are exciting times for kids but we know not everyone is as enthusiastic and we have a responsibility to make sure that we make our communities feel safe.”

South Yorkshire Police will also issue posters advising Trick or Treaters which householders would rather not be disturbed.

Chief Insp McFarlane added: “We have provided this poster so that those who don't wish to be disturbed by trick or treaters can display it.

“I ask that if you are out trick or treating and you see the poster in somebody’s window then please don't disturb them.”
