80 per cent of Advertiser readers "feel less safe" from crime since the pandemic

FOUR out of five Advertiser readers taking part in an online poll said their fear of crime had grown since the pandemic.

Surveyed on Twitter following the rise in crime figures to what South Yorkshire Police called pre-pandemic levels, 78 per cent said they felt less safe now, with 2.1 per cent feeling safer and 19.8 per cent about the same.

The government recently said the recruitment of thousands of officers was due to bring overall police numbers to a record high.
