Crash scene teaches students about road dangers

Students saw first hand the horrors of a car crash when fire and police officers staged a demonstration of an accident scene for hundreds of youngsters.

Pupils from Winterhill School, Clifton School and Thrybergh School and Sports College were among 200 youngsters aged 14 to 16 who were invited to watch how the emergency services deal with the aftermath of a crash.

The Safer Roads Partnership, which includes South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue, South Yorkshire Police, Yorkshire Ambulance Service and the NHS, staged the event aimed for Year 10 and 11 students to show how they work together.

The youngsters were taken through a realistic crash scenario, which included a video to set the scene followed by a mock crash with casualties played by actors.
