Court fines for Dearne Valley litter droppers

ENVIRO crime is high on the agenda for Doncaster Council this Christmas with more people taken to court for littering.

The latest round of prosecutions at Doncaster Magistrates’ Court saw 27 people from across the borough fined for enviro crimes.

Cllr Joe Blackham Cabinet member for Enforcement said: “Doncaster Council takes strong action against environmental crime.

“All of those who appeared before magistrates will have had a chance to pay a lesser fine in the first instance and have ignored repeated opportunities to avoid court.”

Among those convicted were:

James Harcus of Flat Bridge Street, Swinton, who was charged with littering at Trafford Way in April. He was fined £80 and ordered to pay costs of £50.

Nicola Barrett, Warmsworth Road, fined £200, £145 costs, littering.

Nigel Hardman, Hawthorne Crescent, Mexborough, fined £55, £145 costs, littering.

Jade Whittam, Russell Road, Kilnhurst, fined £80, costs £50, littering.

All defendants had to pay a £20 victim surcharge.
