Council offer Magna support to identify opportunities

MAGNA will be offered the support of Rotherham Borough Council staff to help identify new business and development opportunities.

Last week the authority said it would not grant new cash loans after an independent review said the tourist attraction lacked financial resilience.

But officer time will be given over to helping the Templeborough science centre improve what it can offer to visitors.

A restructure of the £440,000 loans currently owed to the council by Magna is set to be formally passed by members next week.

It will allow the outstanding amount to be paid back over a longer period of between ten and 15 years.

Ahead of the approval, council managing director commissioner Stella Manzie backed a proposal supporting Magna as a “key conference and events space” in the region.

The paper said the council would offer support through officer time “to help Magna identify business and development opportunities in respect of the facility and the wider site.”
