Colette seeks votes for her Munch Time story

A CHILDREN’S author is out to rally support as she bids to turn her dream of having a kids’ story published.

Colette Mellor, from Thurnscoe, triumphed over hundreds of budding authors to be named regional finalist of the Munch Time Storytelling Competition, a nationwide search for the UK’s best children’s story writers. 

She now needed Dearne Valley folk to go online and voted for her story at on the Munch Bunch website, www.munchbunch.co.uk/parents/win, to help her bid to be crowned the national 2011 Munch Time winner.

The champion will win a £1,000 cash prize and have their story made into a beautifully illustrated book. 

Five runners up will receive £500 and their winning story published online.

Colette's story, The Rainy Tree, is a tale about how Munch the Cow and her friends Pippa the pony, Chewy and Lewy the sheep couldn't understand why the tree rained. 

She said: “I loved stories and books from a very young age and have always wished that I was good enough to write one myself.

“I now work with children and my job is based in a library so I have to admit I often still read them.

“I suppose I'm just a child at heart."
