Civic Theatre reopens after roof damage

THE FIRST show at Rotherham Civic Theatre since it had to close due to roof damage will take place today.

Four shows had to be cancelled after part of its roof collapsed last week.

But it will reopen for the production of The Railway Children today (Thursday).

Cllr Taiba Yasseen, Rotherham Council’s cabinet member for neighbourhood working and cultural services, said: “The repairs have been completed and the Rotherham Theatres’ team is looking forward to welcoming people to the auditorium for a full programme of entertaining shows during the exciting forthcoming season.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused to our valued customers during this time and thank them for their patience.”

A production of Sweeney Todd by Rotherham Teachers’ Students Academy - due to be held last week - was cancelled.

It will now take place from Tuesday, April 26, until Saturday, April 30.
