Celebrate Victory in Europe in Maltby

VE DAY commemorations in Rotherham will include a beacon lighting in Maltby, a village cricket club celebration and a red, white and blue street party at a school in Greasbrough.

Maltby Town Council will be lighting their beacon at 9.32pm tonight — 70 years on from the end of the Second World War — as part of a ceremony including a reading by the Chairman of the Maltby Branch of the Royal British Legion.

Members and friends of Tickhill Cricket Club will be celebrating the anniversary with a free celebration event from 3pm in the newly rebuilt pavilion at their Alderson Drive ground.

Meanwhile, Greasbrough Primary School pupils will be wearing red, white or blue and staff dressing in 1940s attire for a street party this morning.
