Busy weekend for fire crews

FIREFIGHTERS tackled several blazes and wind-related incidents over the weekend.

Three crews from Rotherham, Dearne and Edlington stations attended a chimney fire at a house on Bridge Street, Swinton.

They arrived at 9am on Friday, used buckets to tackle the fire from the grate and left at around 9.30am.

At 9.40pm one crew from Rotherham station attended a house in Wath where part of the roof had blown off a shed.

The team removed the rest of the roof to avoid it blowing off, leaving the Woodland Road home at around 10.10pm.

Mansfield Road firefighters tackled a car fire on Olive Crescent, Swallownest at around 2am on Saturday.

They left the scene around half an hour later — the blaze is thought to have been started deliberately.

Two engines from Elm Lane attended a fire at the Cepac packaging factory on Meadows Road, Manvers.

They arrived at around 7am on Saturday, spending an hour and a half putting out burning machinery.

A company spokesman said he had no further details on the incident.
