Bishop to consecrate churchyard extension
A CHURCH opens a new chapter in its history this evening when its newly-extended churchyard is given an official seal of approval.
The Bishop of Sheffield Dr Steven Croft will be leading a service at Whiston Parish Church from 7.30pm to mark the consecration of the land.
The Rector of Whiston, the Rev Neil Bowler, said: “Consecration services such as this are now rare,with most churches closing their churchyards for future burials, but at Whiston we are hoping that the extension will mean that for generations to come the people of Whiston will have a special place where they can remember their loved ones.”
