Big-hearted Dave cooks up a tasty treat for those in need

A KINDLY cook was celebrated in the community after he offered two plates of roast lamb dinner and pasties free of charge to people who were struggling.

Dave Roberts, of Maltby, cooked so much for his dinner that there were plenty of leftovers and instead of putting the food in the bin, he decided to help those in need.

He posted his offer in a community social media group and it blew up straight away, with dozens praising Dave for his generosity.

Dave said: “I was really happy about the replies and how many people it reached.

“I was not expecting it at all, I just thought I would do something nice and offer a bit of food for people who may be struggling.”

Dave added: “I had two plates of roast lamb dinner and I chopped the last bits of the leftovers all up into pasties.

“We’re talking about decent portion. I’m a big fella, I’m 18-19st, they were enough for me.

“I had two full-size dinners, boiled potatoes, roast lamb, peas, carrots and gravy.

“It’s just my partner and me in the house, and I know everybody is struggling these days with bills going up.”

Dave, whose offer of free food was snapped up within minutes, said he had offered food before and would do it again.

“I buy my stuff from Aldi so it’s not like I’ve got a lot of money but I just thought I would do something nice for somebody,” he said.

“I think it’s really important to help others. I think everybody if they can, should give back to the community.

“If everybody did something nice, the world would be a better place.”
