A HORRIFIED pet owner is warning people to be on their guard after her cat lost an eye following a sick attack.

Michelle Pendlebury was shocked  when her five-year-old cat Charlie returned home with the skin above and below her eye ripped off and what appeared to be superglue on her tail.

Michelle believes Charlie's tail had been glued to her eye.

The Swinton resident took her straight to the vets where Charlie was kept in overnight and had an operation to remove her left eye the following day.

“She’d been missing for a few days and then when she came home, I was just so shocked at what I saw,”  said a distraught Michelle.

“Her eye was nearly falling out and it looked like superglue on her tail.

“I’m gutted but I’m also fuming. I want to find out who’s done this and stop it happening again.”

Michelle (25), of Manor Road, said she’d been told about a similarly shocking incident which had a more serious outcome.

“I’ve heard that another cat in Swinton had similar injuries but this cat died,” she said.

“It happened to my nannan’s cat two years ago when its tail was superglued to its back.

“Whoever is doing this is sick. They’re not even human. If it’s a kid, perhaps they were in a group and one of them will come forward.”

Michelle has reported the incident to the RSPCA and is now helping Charlie to recover at home.

“She’s still quite jumpy, but I’m trying to encourage her to get used to going outside again,” she said.

A spokeswoman for the RSPCA said: “We have been made aware of this incident and we are looking into it and have been liaising with the police.

“We would urge anyone with any information to call the RSPCA in confidence on 0300 1234 999.”
