Appeal for cinema photos

A HERITAGE enthusiast is asking for photos and memories of a former cinema as it celebrates its centenary year.

Denaby Empire Palace on Doncaster Road was built 100 years ago and a tribute webpage has been set up featuring the original drawing and description of the building and adverts for the films shown during the initial years.

Jim Beachill, of Conisbrough and Denaby Main local history group, said: “The building saw the transition from silent to talking films and survived two world wars.

“Over the years, it has changed from a picture palace and cinema to a bingo hall and fitness centre.

“It would be great to share any memories people have of the place, the people and the films shown there.

“I’d also like to hear memories of the Globe Palace in Conisbrough.”
