Appeal after bogus caller burgles house

POLICE are appealing for information after a man posing as a gas engineer burgled a house.

The man called at the property on Carlisle Street in Rotherham at around 1.20pm last Wednesday (July 2).

Police said that a white man claiming to be a gas engineer went to the house and was invited inside.

He then opened the door and let in three white men who left with items including cash and jewellery.

Anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 527 of July 2 or phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Police said that householders should always check a caller’s ID before opening their door.
