Advertiser the pride of Yorkshire . . . again!

THE Rotherham Advertiser has won the Yorkshire and Humber Weekly Newspaper of the Year title for the second year running.

The Advertiser retained its title at a prestigious awards ceremony hosted by communications giant O2 at the Northern Ballet Theatre in Leeds.

In awarding the title, judges said the paper “is good value with an incredible 120 pages, a consistently good read, looks good and has an excellent sports section”.

Other nominations included the Wakefield Express, Dewsbury Reporter and Bridlington Free Press, and on accepting the award, editor Andrew Mosley said: “I hadn’t prepared a speech as I didn’t think you could win two years running. I’ve only been in the post for six weeks, so this award had nothing to do with me, but was all to do with the enthusiasm, talent and hard-work of the team that puts together a consistently good paper every week.

“While many newspapers owned by media giants have suffered massive cutbacks and had to down-grade their products, the Rotherham Advertiser, which is independently owned, has been able to continue to produce a great paper with the local community in mind and has never lost sight of that.”
