A level success for Rotherham’s students

SCHOOLS and colleges around Rotherham were packed with celebrating students today as A Level results were revealed.

At Thomas Rotherham College, principal Dr Richard Williams paid tribute to the hard work of students and staff, saying that the pass rate had remained at 98 per cent and the proportion of high grades increased. Overall, 48 students achieved an average of three A grades or better, while four achieved straight A* grades in all their specialist subjects.

Maltby Academy announced that 100 per cent of students had achieved pass grades in two or more subjects, with 23 per cent securing A* or A grades.

Principal Dave Sutton said: “The number of applications for University this year has remained very high with a small number accessing apprenticeships or other work related training opportunities.

“We are awaiting final confirmation of University places but anticipate all students securing either their first choice or a place through clearing.

“Once again, we will see Maltby students continuing their studies at different universities across the country.”

Wales High School head Pepe Di’Iasio said students had secured the school’s best ever results and highest ever pass rate.

Students, their families and staff should all feel rightfully proud of this excellent achievement,” he added.

Students at Swinton Community School achieved a pass rate well above the national average with 99.02 per cent of entries achieving a pass grade.

Head teacher, David Pridding, said: “'We are all very pleased to see the class of 2013 continue the Swinton tradition with another excellent set of results.

“I would simply like to congratulate all our A Level students on their results and acknowledge all the hard work of their teachers and the tremendous support they received from their families.”
