MORE than 200 friends, relatives and comrades attended a moving service to celebrate a young soldier’s life cut tragically short by leukaemia.

Sam Howis (19) of Lathe Road, Whiston died last month after a five-day battle with the disease, which developed while he was home on leave in Whiston.

He received full military honours at his funeral, including an honour guard and a rifle salute.
