Hide AdA postmortem revealed that Mr Metcalfe, who had a history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, was suffering from severe emphysema and bronchial pneumonia.
The cause of death was given as bronchial pneumonia due to emphysema and cancer of the lungs.
The Deputy Rotherham Coroner, Mr Fred Curtis, said that after 46 years working underground it was perhaps not surprising that Mr Metcalfe had chronic bronchitis and emphysema which were attributable to his work.
Mr Curtis recorded a verdict of death from industrial disease.
