School needs your pictures and memories to help mark centenary

WATH Academy has appealed for photos and memories as it prepares to celebrate its centenary.

The secondary school turns 100 in September and special events will remember the past and look to the future.

Principal Liam Ransome said: “This is a momentous occasion for our academy.

“Our celebrations will look to the past and our long and rich history.

“We’re asking for anyone with memories, be it stories, photos or artefacts from their time at the school to share them with us and we’ll be putting on a display in September to showcase the history of Wath Academy.

“A time capsule put together by our current pupils and staff will commemorate the present and we’re looking forward to working together to identify items that really capture the current time.”

The academy is also aiming to plant 100 trees, under a National Trust scheme.

“We all know how important looking after the environment is and we want to help to grow a positive future for our young people,” added Mr Ransome.

“We’ll be asking our supporters and families to donate to a special centenary fund to enable us to do this and we’ll be sharing more details soon.

“We have achieved so many great things in the past 100 years and we can’t wait to celebrate this major milestone and look forward to delivering even more in the next 100 years.”

The academy is part of Maltby Learning Trust, whose chief executive David Sutton said: “This is a great opportunity for us to celebrate the academy’s achievements and recognise the important role they play within the trust.
