PLANS for a children’s home on a main road in Maltby will require a “change of use” permission for the premises, Rotherham Council ruled.

Friends Together Care Homes Ltd asked if the current category for the house on Rotherham Road would cover the proposed use.

The company hopes to use the three-bed detached property to accommodate two young people with emotional, behavioural or communication difficulties; challenging behaviour or special educational needs.

The applicant’s documents suggested there would be little change from the conventional residential use.

But an RMBC spokesperson said: “The use of the property as a residential home for two children with carers on a shift basis and a manager attending on a daily basis, in addition to occasional visits by a social worker, would increase the level of activity and car journeys to and from the property from that which currently exists.

“The property is considered to have insufficient parking and manoeuvring areas for the number of vehicles that would be visiting.”
