THE BIG MATCH: Home fans can be 12th man, says Evans

STEVE Evans says Millers supporters can help their team get over the line in today’s meeting of his two old clubs.

The Scot insists Rotherham will have to be at their absolute best to cause an upset against a Leeds side who are making an assault on the Championship’s top six under Garry Monk, who succeeded him during the summer.

The man who oversaw back-to-back promotions at the New York Stadium says the match is one his old club can’t really afford to lose and the importance of it should not be lost on the supporters who have not seen their team win since beating Brentford there three months ago.

"It's one of those games you want the best team to win,” said new Mansfield chief Evans, who will follow the action on the way home from the Stags’ match at Carlisle.

“From a Rotherham perspective they desperately need the points, dare I even say it more than Leeds, although if you tell that to anyone from Leeds they will look at me strangely.

"Rotherham are in the fight of their lives but when you are where Garry is in the league you can lose three points and as we demonstrated in our promotion campaign at Rotherham, come back strong.

“If it's level after 70 odd minutes, the atmosphere will be electric because three-quarters of the ground will be willing their team like they've never willed them before because they know how important a win is. That’s when the Rotherham supporters can become the 12th man.”
