Rother Valley police trap speeding drivers

POLICE who checked on motorists passing a village’s new pedestrian crossing found one in five drivers speeding.

Rother Valley South Safer Neighbourhood Team responded to residents’ worries on Outgang Lane, Laughton Common.

During the operation, 18 of the 85 vehicles clocked were travelling faster than the 30mph limit.

Insp Nick Gaskell said: “We responded to concerns of the community and our primary aim was to educate motorists in respect of the dangers of exceeding the speed limit.

“Where motorists were slightly over the speed limit my staff issued words of advice.”

One fixed penalty was issued and Insp Gaskell promised more enforcement work if the problem persists.
