Residents evacuated after Dinnington blaze

HOMES in Dinnington were evacuated last night as three fire crews fought a blaze involving a butane tank.

The teams from Maltby, Rotherham and Aston Park stations arrived at around 7.40pm to tackle a fire in a garage on Silverdales.

They put up a cordon and asked residents to leave on learning that the lockup contained a gas cylinder.

The fire was extinguished by 8.55pm — crews finished damping down the scene and left at 9.20pm.

A fire service spokesman said the gas tank was cooled down and did not ignite. He could not confirm the cause of the fire on Wednesday morning.

Firefighters also put out an accidental bulldozer blaze yesterday afternoon.

One engine from Rotherham attended Tata Steel in Parkgate at around 2.30pm. Its crew used foam to tackle the fire, which started when fuel leaked on to the running engine.

They left the scene at around 3.20pm.

No injuries or other damage have been reported.
