Man in court on firearms and burglary charges

A MAN has been charged with multiple offences after police received reports that he had a gun.

Police said armed officers had been deployed to Welland Crescent, Elsecar, at 1.17pm on Friday.

"They arrested a 43-year-old man on suspicion of aggravated burglary," added the spokeswoman.

Kevin Matthews, of Oak Close, Hoyland, was charged with criminal damage, robbery and possession of an imitation firearm.

Police added that he was also charged with section 18 assault and theft relating to a separate incident that took place earlier on Friday.

Matthews appeared in court yesterday and was remanded in custody until his next hearing.
