A CHARITY is looking for call centre staff to help members of the public who want to complain about their NHS treatment.

The Carers’ Federation is looking for five call handlers to man the hotline at The Hub, a new phone contact centre due to open in February at the Patrick Tobin Business Park, Manvers.

The federation says the new staff will be on the frontline for dealing with people who want to voice their concerns via a new Government service called Healthwatch.

The Carers Federation already employs eight people in Rotherham, at its office delivering the ICAS (Independent Complaints Advocacy Service) service for Yorkshire and Humberside, also based in Patrick Tobin Business Park.

Rob Gardiner, deputy chief executive of the Carers Federation, said: "We're pleased to be investing in Rotherham and providing these new jobs. We believe The Hub has a bright future, and we've chosen to locate it in Rotherham because we know we will find the skills we need among the local workforce.

"The roles we are recruiting are for experienced call handlers who will play a valuable role in helping members of the public have their complaints resolved. They will appeal to people who are able to build a good rapport over the phone, have good listening skills and can show empathy with individuals' concerns, often in situations when emotions are running high."

The Carers Federation runs a variety of other services aimed at carers, as well as the loved ones they look after, across South Yorkshire, the East Midlands and in other areas, including support for young carers and adult carers. The Hub in Rotherham may also support the work of these services in future.
