50mph winds to batter Yorkshire all day say forecasters

FORECASTERS have issued a warning of more high winds today after yesterday’s gales caused a black-out affecting more than 70,000 people.

Northern Powergrid confirmed that the wind caused an electrical fault on an overhead line which shut down the system at around 2pm on Wednesday.

Homes and businesses across Rotherham, Barnsley and Sheffield were affected by the black-out.

The Met Office is warning that gusts of 50 to 60mph are expected throughout Yorkshire and Humberside today before the winds ease later this evening.
